How to delete Reddit account

There aren’t many steps to delete a Reddit account, but there are a few things you should know before deleting your account. Reddit does not allow you to temporarily disable your account. If you delete your account, you will never be able to get any aspect of your account.

Reddit is a massive platform. It is the sixth most visited site in the world and has 542 million monthly users. It lives up to its motto, “Internet homepage”. Not surprisingly, it generates a lot of interest in what it is, how it works, and who uses it. We will discover it in this post:

What is Reddit?

Reddit is a content aggregator determined by the community. We talk about a social platform in which users send publications that other users can vote for or against, according to their preferences. If a publication receives many votes, it goes up in the Reddit ranking and, consequently, more people can see it.

If you receive votes down, your visibility is quickly reduced and disappears from the view of most users. Reddit is divided into subcommunities or subreddits. Any user can create subreddits on any topic, be it a general issue, such as technology, or specific, as a simple joke.

Each subreddit becomes part of the complete Reddit mailing list, which means that a post on any subreddit (unless it is private) can reach the main page of the website.

Who uses Reddit?

As mentioned earlier, many people participate in Reddit. But when it comes to demographic data, we don’t have too much information. One of the great advantages of Reddit is that it is easy to remain anonymous. You just have to provide an email and a username. That said, there has been some research on the subject.

Already in 2016, Pew Research Study conducted a survey that determined that Reddit users were 67% male and 64% aged between 18 and 29 years. They also discovered that 70% of users were white. So, the profile was “young, white and male,” essentially. Another study (although probably less serious) found similar results.

This, however, does not convey a too complete perspective. Returning to subreddits, it is quite clear that this demographic distribution is not uniform throughout the site.

Being able to make a subreddit on any topic suggest that all people can be taken into account. For example, the TwoXChromosomes subreddit is especially aimed at women. Then, there are others for various ethnicities, countries, cities, and more. In other words, the general data does not respond to the diversity that does exist in Reddit.

Reddit concepts

It is a type of concept related to gamification: each user has a ‘karma’ score. This measures the quality of a user’s comments and the contributions he makes to the site based on the negative and positive feedback we have talked about. If your comments or posts get many ‘ascending’ or positive votes, your karma increases.

If they receive many ‘descending’ or negative votes, go down. There is no real value to reward this. You don’t get an award or anything tangible. It’s just a sign or badge that tells others how good a user you are.

Reddit Gold

Reddit Gold is a premium option that offers additional benefits to users. For example, they can deactivate ads, create custom avatars, or participate in subreddits available only to people with this premium program. Nothing essential to be able to use the site, just some advantages.

An essential aspect of this is the ability to give ‘gold’ to different users. This has become a typical way to show how much you prefer someone’s post.

A person can give ‘gold’ to another for any reason. For example, after a joke or a real story.

Ask me anything (AMAs)

The AMAs (Ask me anything) did not originate from Reddit, but now they relate directly to this platform. They are exactly what they seem. A person is proposed, and he has to answer questions on any subject. In Reddit, there is a subreddit specifically for this, r /IamA. These follow the format of “I am a ***, ask me anything”.

Not only stars participate. Everyone can do it. Each subreddit will carry out its own AMAs according to its specific topic. For example, an AMAs from an orchestra conductor in a subnet of classical music. This format has become very popular. So much so that several celebrities have participated, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Barack Obama, and Neil Degrasse Tyson.

User Profiles

Although you can remain anonymous, Reddit will keep a record of your activity on the site. This will include a list of your posts or comments and a count of your karma. It will also show you how much ‘gold’ of Reddit you have bought or the subreddits that you moderate. They are straightforward and simple, but Reddit has some plans for the future.

They are currently implementing new profiles that allow you to choose an image, include a biography and write publications on your page. It’s nothing very relevant, but many in the community were worried that Reddit tried to look more like Facebook or Tumblr. Also, anonymity was another issue that generated debate among users.

While everyone must accept the new profile, the ability to remain anonymous has not changed.

How to delete Reddit account

if you delete your account without deleting comments, everyone can still see them, but your username will be changed to “Deleted.” In the future, if you decide to use your Reddit account again, you won’t be able to use the username you used before, nor can you use any other username.

However, there is a way to recover Reddit data. If you want to recover your data, you must contact Reddit to request your data so that you can download it. If you are still interested in deleting your Reddit account, you can follow the instructions below.
